Bowling Notebook: Castle Rock, Morton teams share top honors at state event

Family Jewels of Castle Rock and Morton’s Victory Lanes shared top honors in the team event at the Washington State United States Bowling Congress Championships, which concluded at the Hilander and Triangle bowling centers.
Both teams rolled identical scores of 3690, and each squad received $1,125 in prize money.
The Barry McCockner All Stars of Gig Harbor finished a close third with 3686 for $685, while Mr. Z’s Casino of Moscow, Idaho rolled 3677 for $648, and Hafa Adai 2 of Tacoma placed fifth with 3655 for $624. Triangle Bowl, the only local team to place in the top-25, tied for 12th place with 3558, good for $547.
The tournament featured a combined prize fund of $117,564, including $29,520 in prize money in the team event, $30,372 in singles, $30,408 in doubles, $14,904 in trios, $9,580 in the handicap all-events and $2,780 in scratch all-events.
A total of 1,267 competed in the event, along with 1,267 doubles, 2,531 singles, 414 trios, 1,916 handicap all-events and 556 scratch all-events entries.
Road Warriors II of Lacey ran away with the trios after rolling 2468, good for $750. Everybody Left of Kettle Falls was a distant second with 2299 for $375, and Valley Bowl Trophy #1 was third with 2296, also worth $375. We Hate Steve II of Newport was fourth with 2287 for $370, and A1 Compressed Gases I of Colbert rounded out the top-5 with 2276 for $365.
A pair of Kelso teams also finished in the top-25. Tim’s Terrors rolled 2191 for 20th place and $287, and Three Generations grabbed 24th place with 2185, good for $267.
Forrest Rief of Davenport packed home titles in the singles and doubles. He nosed out Diane Daniels of Enumclaw 879-878 to win the singles and $600, and teamed with James Buchanan to roll 1629 and claim $1,200 in the doubles.
Daniels claimed $375 as runner-up in the singles, and was followed in the top-5 by Jerry Anderson of Des Moines with 860 for $319, Bothell’s Gordon Telford with 838 for $275, and Mike Berquist of Tacoma with 836 for $241.
Andy Furlong and Jeffrey Furlong of Goldendale finished second in the doubles with 1617 for $750, Seattle’s Benjamin Rowland and Tim Holman teamed for 1587 and third place for $629, Aaron Thornton and Thom Thornton of Morton were fourth with 1579 for $536, and Mark Zorica and Todd Douglas placed fifth with 1556 for $464.
Bob Malone and Beau Little of Kelso grabbed 12th place with 1524 for $260, Winlock’s Gabriel Guevara and Hector Guevara tied for 15th with 1519 for $234.50, and Anthony Bowman and Jory Goehner of Kelso were 18th with 1517, good for $224.
Locals claim prize money at Women’s State tourney
A number of local bowlers placed in their respective divisions and received prize money from the Washington State United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championships that recently concluded at Pacific Lanes and Bowlero Lanes in Tacoma.
In singles, Clatskanie’s Dixie Donaldson rolled 511 to place third in Division F for $70, Laura Jenkins of Westport carded 501 to finish third in Class G for $71, and Linda High of Long Beach tallied 599 to place third in Class D for $72.
Debbi McKenney and Roberta Marsh of Long Beach finished fifth in Class D doubles with 1012 for $113, and McKenney finished second in Class C all-events with 1751 for $150.
Clatskanie’s Betty Erickson rolled 1732 to place third in Class C all-events for $104, High tallied 1637 in Class D all-events for $123, and Joyce Stout of Scappoose pocketed $83 after placing sixth with 1589. Donaldson also grabbed $111 after finishing second in Class F with 1439.
Among the 4-person teams, the Alley Gators of Long Beach placed fifth in Class C with 1976 for $158, the Good Time Girls of Scappoose tied for second in Class D with 1870 for $181, and the Bowling Bags II of Clatskanie placed sixth in Class E with 1793, good for $122.
More than $35,000 in prize money was paid out to the tournament’s top placers in the singles, doubles, team and all-events.
Triangle keglers win big in Jackpot Classic finals
Keglers from Triangle Bowl packed home nearly $4,000 in prize money from the finals of the 13th annual Washington State Bowling Proprietors Association Jackpot Classic tournament held recently in Las Vegas.
Bowlers who compete in the Jackpot Classic leagues held across the state are eligible to compete in the finals, which featured a prize fund of nearly $62,000. Bowlers battled for more than $40,000 in the doubles, nearly $12,000 in the team and more than $9,600 in the singles events.
In the team event, Sharon Lorber, Ken Lorber, Michele Bergeson and Jeff Bergeson rolled 2507 to place sixth in Class A for $360, and Annette Reisig, Orville Ravencraft, Cheri Rutherford and Jason Bost carded 2533 to place 10th in Class B, good for $200.
Bost also grabbed 20th place in Class A singles with 623 for $60, and Rutherford pocketed $50 for placing 25th with 611. In Class B, Reisig claimed 39th place with 628 for $40, and Ravencraft rolled 601 for 52nd place and $40.
In Class A doubles, Sandi Lovgren and Jennifer Brunelle rolled 1308 to place 17th for $220, Jeff Brown and Dan Hines combined for 1283 to place 28th for $140, and Brunelle and Mark Fuqua carded 1278 to finish 30th, also for $140.
Other A doubles placers included Heath Jones-Jerry Grauman (36th, 1267, $140), Brad Booth-Roy Irwin (44th, 1241, $140), Ralph Webb-Doug Sweet (50th, 1237, $140), Sharon Lorber-Jeff Bergeson (53rd, 1231, $140), Michele Bergeson-Ken Lorber (56th, 1229, $140), Ralph Webb-Bud Prescott (60th, 1221, $140), Sharon Lorber-Michele Bergeson (66th, 1210, $80), Lowell Lovgren-Sandi Lovgren (75th, 1199, $80), Tony Girt-Jason Bost (88th, 1181, $80), Ken Lorber-Jeff Bergeson (94th, 1175, $80), Bud Prescott-Tom Franko (108th, 1152, $80), Doug Sweet-Tom Franko (121st, 1093, $80), Staci Hampton-Cal Hampton (122nd, 1092, $80) and Debi Sears-Don Sears (125th, 1049, $80).
Marie Dang and Brad Rutherford placed fourth in Class B doubles with 1390 for $480, and Shirleen Fuqua and Dean Fuqua placed 24th with 1322 for $140. Other placers include Annette Reisig-Orville Ravencraft (28th, 1314, $140), Carla Nichols-Marie Miller (36th, 1298, $140), Mary Mathers-Warren Mathers (74th, 1239, $80), Marilee Irwin-Wilma Gillespie (86th, 1219, $80), Rob Moore-T.J. Ablan (106th, 1173, $80) and Staci Johnson-Lenny Johnson (123rd, 1045, $80).
Cowlitz USBC Junior Stars defend state crown
The Cowlitz Junior All-Stars needed a two-game roll-off to successfully defend their title at the USBC Washington State All-Star tournament held recently at Narrows Plaza Bowl near Tacoma.
Cowlitz, which trailed by nine points going into the final Baker format game worth 15 points, clawed its way into a tie for the lead with the Snoqualmie All-Stars with 89 points apiece at the end of regulation. Cowlitz went on to win the two-game Baker roll-off to claim the crown for the second consecutive year.
Jordan Yoke led Cowlitz with 727 for three games. Other team members were Zack Stone, Jared McNeal, Michael Bartness, Matthew Bartness and Ray Nugent. The team was coached by Bob Nugent.
