St. John Medical Center made an industry Top 100 Hospitals list for the second year in a row, hospital officials announced Thursday.
Independent research firm Cleverley & Associates evaluated 2,800 hospitals for the rankings and compared hospitals to appropriate peer groups, according to a press release. The Ohio-based firm has been ranking hospitals for five years.
The rankings chart a hospital’s finances and reinvestment and cost and charge structures. They do not evaluate quality of care, but they do review whether a hospital reinvests in equipment and other improvements and keeps costs low. Doing so is considered an asset to a community.
St. John’s community value index score placed it ahead of 96.5 percent of all hospitals evaluated, according to the press release.
“An outstanding medical center not only offers exceptional medicine and compassionate patient care, but provides health care services at a reasonable cost,” said Sarah Cave, St. John’s vice president of strategic development. “This top 100 community value ranking shows that St. John continues to do an excellent job bringing health care quality and value to our community.”
“A large number of hospitals may perform well in one or two of the core areas of the Community Value Index. However, those hospitals that are part of the Top 100 have achieved strong results in each of the three areas,” Jaime Cleverley of Cleverley+Associates said in a prepared statement.
St. John is one of three Washington hospitals on the list. Others are Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee and Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital in Yakima. No Oregon hospitals made the top 100 list.
