Astoria's String of Pearls

The Astoria jazz band String of Pearls will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Pioneer Church in Cathlamet.

Tickets cost $12.50 for adults and $8 for youth. They’re available at Trillium Bookstore in Cathlamet.

Motorbreath, Wild Dogs rock Porky's

Metallica tribute band Motorbreath will make full use of the new sound system at Porky’s during a show starting at 9 p.m. Saturday. The opening act is Wild Dogs, a group that reportedly started the trend of spikey things in punk rock clothing.

There’s a $3 cover charge for the show.

Or, come from 6 to 8 p.m. and listen to the Brian Mitchell Jazz Quartet.

Waikiki series opens

The free concert series on Waikiki Beach at Cape Disappointment State Park near Ilwaco starts Saturday.

Casey Neill Trio will play an American mix of Celtic folk music starting at 2 p.m.

The concerts will take place at the new Confluence Project amphitheater at Waikiki Beach, which offers views of the Columbia River and Pacific Ocean.

The concerts run to Aug. 23 and feature a wide variety of musical genres, including Celtic, jazz, bluegrass, ragtime and sea shanties.

Relay for Life car wash

A fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will be held Saturday.

The Brecht Pacifics car wash will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jiffy Lube by the Shell gas station on 15th Avenue in Longview.

Sand Island shuttle

The City of St. Helens’ free shuttle to Sand Island will depart the city docks Saturday on the hour every hour from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. It will depart Sand Island on the half hour every hour from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

On Sunday, it will depart the St. Helens city docks on the hour every hour from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and leave the island on the half hour every hour from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

St. Helens city docks are located below the County courthouse at 230 Strand Street in St. Helens.

Free parking is available in the city-owned lot one block from the waterfront.
