Can teenagers today break away from cell phones, laptops and iPods for a week?

How did young people track each other’s lives without Facebook and MySpace? Are young people today too dependent on technology?

The Daily News is looking for a group of tech-savvy teenagers to unplug their gadgets for one week and tell us what it’s like. If you are up for the challenge, contact reporter Leila Summers at (360) 577-2524 or lsummers@tdn.com.

" Asking for this is like asking a couch potato to walk to work, or a smoker to simply "not smoke," or a junk food junkie to eat a salad. Will not happen. These questions speak to a larger question - the reason for our future societal 'failure.' We're each TOO important to make the small changes necessary to ensure the success of our population as a whole. That's what it really boils down to. "

" My space my eye; 1,111,000 friends you've never even met. Those aren't friends, they aren't even aquaintances. I have a laptop computer, cellphone, mp3 player but I still read the paper (made from newsprint) and listen to the radio. "

" I'm not a teenage anymore but was 4 years ago I think I could go for a month without my cellphone or ipod but I couldn't go more then a few days without the internet. It's how I stay in contact with my family, how I keep up with the news, heck I wouldnt be able to read these articles without the internet because I no longer live in the area. So I would say no, MOST teenagers probably can't go that long without all three of those things. I'm sure they could go without 1 or 2 for a week but not all three. "
