One person was injured in a three-vehicle collision that blocked a southbound lane of Interstate 5 north of Castle Rock for a half hour 1:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Wionnia Granillo, 17, of Scappoose, was transported to St. John Medical Center with neck and back pain. She was injured after the driver of a 1999 Volkswagen Passat, Zachery Lowe of Olympia, made an unsafe lane change and struck the passenger side of Granillo’s 2004 Dodge Neon, according to a state patrol news release.
After striking Granillo’s car, Lowe, 20, veered away from the impact and into another vehicle – a 1998 Chevrolet pickup pulling a camper trailer driven by Larry Danielson, 55, of Chehalis, according to the WSP. Granillo’s car spun into the concrete barrier, blocking traffic in the left lane near mile post 54.
Granillo was treated and released by Monday evening, according to a St. John staff member.
The accident was caused by Lowe’s speeding and wrongful lane change, and the incident is under investigation, according to the WSP. All three people involved were wearing seat belts.
Drivers sustained an estimated total of more than $12,000 in damages to their vehicles.
