Four of the six Rainier School Board members facing a May 27 recall ballot met with The Daily News staff on Tuesday, May 6, to discuss issues that led to the recall effort.

Board members Dale Archibald, Bill Scholten, Penny Blahm and Rod Harding were present, as were Daily News Editor Cal FitzSimmons, Opinion Editor Jim Bross and reporter Barbara LaBoe.

Citizens behind the recall effort and the two other board members facing recall — Scott Schuff and Chad Womack — were unable to attend the meeting.

The following is a complete audio recording of the meeting that has been divided into three parts. Once you've launched an audio file, you may need to pause the file for a few minutes to allow it to buffer.

" Is anyone else having issues with the audio? Mine won't load all the way, no matter how much time I give it. "

" Listen to the Board whine at the beginning of this audio. They accuse Crawford of being a whiner. Listen to them and you judge! "

" Good questions TDN! Listening to all the answers left me with the belief that they favored Carter over Gilbert in this mess. "

" I was undecided until I listened to the audio of the meeting. I am now voting to recall the board. Was it me or did they all sound like they were sucking their thumbs? Especially Rod Harding! "

" You have to give the school board props for consenting to be recorded for this, but I think they weakened their position. I think some of the things they alluded to, especially the board's handling of the Kash incident (as Cal asked them numerous times in Part 2) were suspect at best.

I also think the recall supporters weakened their position by not having one person show up to represent their side. Then again, without them it created no opportunity for fireworks and the board was able to state what they needed to...however, they just didn't do a good job of it.

Things are getting ugly in Rainier, let's just recall the board already and get on with our lives. Let's start from scratch, apologize to our kids and the community and move on. "

" I think that the recall committee was smart not to have anyone there. If recall people were there, it just would have been one big old argument and probably would have come to blows. This was much better, just letting the board speak for themselves. I guess the recall committee is smarter than some people give them credit for!! What the board said just made them look worse, and definitely weaken their support. Also, thank you TDN!! Great questions!! I'm proud. "

" The party thing at JAYS house did it for me.Shows the true colors of both MR.CARTER AND THE BOARD.LIKE SOME SMALL KID.Wish Carter would take his marbles and go home.this one thing made me change my mind on how i was voteing. What got me was that Carter used the same things to cancel the party.and this is part of education?my family just cast 13 votes.
