AUBURN, Wash. — Lower Columbia College plated six runs in the fourth inning and cruised to an 8-0 victory over Green River in NWAACC Western Division baseball on Sunday.

The triumph, coupled with Tacoma's victory in two of three weekend games with Centralia, kept the Red Devils (21-18, 16-4 league) two games ahead of the Titans atop the division standings with five games remaining.

LCC entertains Centralia at 6 p.m. Wednesday on David Story Field.

Brian Erickson scattered two hits and struck out five Gators before yielding to relievers Luke Zirkle, Rye Phillips and Michael Greene.

"Erickson did a great job and rose to the top," LCC coach Kelly Smith said. "He had a lively fastball, and was getting his off-speed and breaking pitches over the plate."

After scoring a solo run in the third inning, the Devils went to the long-ball to plate four runs in the fourth. Shawn Peterson opened the inning with a solo homer, and two outs later Nic Shadle clubbed a two-run blast. Richie Allen closed out the barrage with a three-run blast. LCC added an insurance run in the seventh on a ground out from Bas Nooij.

Shadle finished with two hits and two RBIs as the ninth place hitter. Peterson and Jett Hart had two hits apiece, and Allen knocked in four runs.
