Tasia Trochim twirled a no-hitter in the nightcap, and the Lower Columbia College Lady Devils belted nine home runs in the doubleheader as they swept Southwestern Oregon in NWAACC Southern Division softball at Tam O'Shanter Park on Thursday.

LCC (30-7, 14-6 league) won the opener 13-0 in five innings and claimed the nightcap 11-0 in five.

In the opener, Carri O'Neil scattered three hits and struck out three for the victory. The Lady Devils had 16 hits, with Jessi Hanna hitting two home runs, a double and knocking in four runs. O'Neil had two hits including a home run and scored twice, Hayley Hidout and Anna Owen each had a home run and a double, Courtney Sherman and Kassandra Myers each had a homer, and Camy Way and Kayla Vickaryous added two hits apiece.

In Game 2, a hit batter in the second inning is all that stood between Trochim and a perfect game. LCC tallied 14 hits, with Way collecting two including a home run, and Stina Rock belted a round-tripper. Vickaryous had four hits including a triple, and Samantha Petrich had three hits with a double.

Lassies avenge loss

Kelso walloped Union 7-0 on Thursday at Lassie Beach in a Greater St. Helens 3A fastpitch game to avenge its lone league defeat of the season.

"It was a pride game. Union was the only team to beat us in league, so the girls wanted to get them back and finish the (regular) season on a high note," Kelso coach Mike McMahon said.

Crystal Nyman pitched the win, striking out 12 and scattering four singles.

Jenna DeRosier had a double and two RBIs for the Lassies (12-2, 9-1 league), while Breanna Sanders was 1-for-1 with three RBIs. Sadie Salte, one of two seniors honored on Senior Day along with Jamie Bolin, had a hit and drove in a run.

Kelli Snyder, Nyman and Mackenzie Southard also had hits for Kelso, which hosts defending 1A state champion Castle Rock in a nonleague game Tuesday in its final tune-up before the district tournament.

Jills nail down crown

R.A. Long's insane marathon of a fastpitch week isn't over yet, but the Lumberjills' quest for a Greater St. Helens 2A League title is.

RAL made it official in a home sweep of Washougal on Thursday, completing a suspended game for a 10-0 win in the opener and exploding for a late rally to take the nightcap 10-3.

The Game 2 victory officially clinched the league championship.

"I'm just really proud of the girls," said Jills coach Jennifer Godinho-Hefley. "When we stick together, we do pretty good."

R.A. Long (14-2, 11-1 league) plays Ridgefield today, wrapping up a six-games-in-five-days stretch.

Game 1 on Thursday was the continuation of a game that was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning with two outs and an RAL baserunner on third. The Jills left that runner on base, but Baily Harris pitched a scoreless fifth to finish a nine-strikeout no-hitter.

Kiana Mawae had a triple, two singles and an RBI, Mira Hobson had a single, double and three RBIs, and Sara Oliva and Kaylie Dobbins (RBI) each doubled.

Harris struck out 15 in the second game, which saw the Jills overcome 2-0 and 3-2 deficits. The game was tied 3-3 entering the fifth when RAL scored five runs to break it open.

Oliva (two singles, double), Averie Bogner (two hits), Mawae (triple), Harris (single, triple), Mandy Clewett (single, two doubles), Dobbins (single, triple) and Hobson (double) led the hit parade.

Monarchs nip Woodland

Talia Hamer and Jessica Johnston provided the key hits to back a strong outing by Kayli Johntson and propel Mark Morris to a 2-1 victory over Woodland on Thursday in a Greater St. Helens 2A League fastpitch game.

Johnston pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts for the Monarchs (10-6, 8-5 league).

Sadie Petersen doubled in the first inning and scored on a base hit by Jessica Johnston, and Johnston singled in the third inning and scored on a knock by Hamer.

Hamer and Jessica Johnston each went 2-for-3, and Kaitlin Rheaume boomed a double off the right-field wall.

Petersen made a crucial defensive play in the sixth inning, when Woodland scored its run and threatened to tie the game with a baserunner at second. Petersen backhanded a hard ground ball at shortstop, feigned a throw to first, then dived to tag the Beavers' baserunner as she headed back to second.

Jennifer Maxam had three of Woodland's seven hits. Emily Holt scattered six hits and struck out five in the loss.

On Wednesday, Woodland (6-8, 6-7 league) visits Ridgefield and MM visits Washougal.
