Mari Peterson fired a season-best round of 42 to claim medalist honors as Kelso cruised to a 195-216 victory over Hudson's Bay in a Greater St. Helens 3A League girls golf dual Monday at Three Rivers Golf Course.
"The 195 was one of our better scores of the year," said Kelso coach Jim Langenbach. "We had one of our better days, even though it was cold. The rain didn't come until after our No. 5 (varsity) girl came in."
Stephanie Bernard (50), Casey Birdsell (51) and Makayla Walters (52) rounded out the Kelso scorecard.
Langenbach said two of his JV players, Nicole Nordin and Hailey Koth, were "playing great until we had to get them off the course on the last hole" because of a downpour.
The Lassies (2-0 league) host Union on Wednesday.

Jacks overtake Washougal
R.A. Long got so used to the feel of the rakes it was using to prepare the pitching mound and home-plate area at Roy Morse Park, the Jacks forgot to pick up their bats until midway through their showdown with Washougal.
But after trailing by three runs early, RAL exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth and put away the Panthers 8-4 in a Greater St. Helens 2A League baseball game.
"I think we were still kind of feeling the affects of getting the field ready, because we did not come out ready to play," RAL coach Jason Castro said.
Washougal led 4-1 after three innings and 4-2 entering the Lumberjack fifth. Edwin Frauenfeld, Trevor Sweet and Carl Johnson had consecutive singles to cut the lead to 4-3, and Scott Pisapia's bunt hit loaded the bases. Dane Cheatley dumped a single down the right-field line to score two runs, and the Jacks scored another pair on Panther mistakes.
RAL starter Kyle Wika was struck on the forearm by a line drive in the second inning and had to be replaced by Sam Barbee. Barbee responded with five innings of no-walk ball, striking out six, scattering four hits, allowing only one earned run and booking his first varsity victory.
Tyler Hudson went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Jacks (9-5, 7-3 league), and Pisapia was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
R.A. Long visits Woodland today for the completion of a suspended game.
Spudders win in eight
RIDGEFIELD - Woodland scored twice in the top of the eighth inning for a 5-3 lead, but Ridgefield responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning for a 6-5 victory in GSHL 2A League baseball on Saturday.
Woodland's Jared Hadaller scattered 11 hits in the complete-game setback. Jared Fritz allowed nine hits and whiffed 10 batters for the complete-game victory.
Hadaller and Evan Clark had two hits apiece for the Beavers.
Trojans rally past TL
TOUTLE - Toutle Lake held a 6-0 lead over Pe Ell for four innings in Monday's Central 2B League baseball game, but the Trojans took advantage of sloppy play to stage a comeback and claim a 14-7 win.
Brandon Bartlett, TL's starting pitcher, got into trouble as he entered the second half of the game, and the Ducks made seven errors behind him. Luke Lindquist came in to pitch the last two, but fared little better.
Tyler Elam and Cody O'Connor both hit 2-for-4, and Connor had an RBI.
Toutle (3-7 league) hosts White Pass today.

Lassies handle River
Jenna DeRosier allowed just four baserunners, and Kelli Snyder and Jamie Bolin helped the Kelso offense make the most of a limited number of at-bats as the Lassies cruised over Columbia River 9-3 at Lassie Beach on Monday in a Greater St. Helens 3A League fastpitch game.
The contest was shortened to 4 1/2 innings by rain, giving Kelso (8-2, 5-1 league) just four turns at the plate.
That didn't keep Snyder or Bolin from doing big damage. Each went 3-for-3.
Tailer Snow continued her hitting tear by going 2-for-2 with a double. Mackenzie Southard was a defensive standout at second base and also went 2-for-2 with a double and a walk, and Crystal Nyman (1-for-2) and Andrea DeRosier (1-for-3) also got in on the fun.
Bolin played some "nice defense" at third, Kelso coach Mike McMahon said, and Breanna Sanders provided some solid defense at second.
On Wednesday, the Lassies host Union, the team responsible for their only league loss.
Beavers scare Hawks
HOCKINSON - Woodland's comeback bid fell short on Monday as Hockinson scored a 3-2 fastpitch win over the Beavers in Greater St. Helens 2A League action.
The Hawks slowly built a 3-0 lead despite getting out-hit 8-5. In the top of the seventh, Woodland scored two runs on a triple by Stacie McLendon (2-for-3), but the tying run was out of reach.
Kate Wodeage also went 2-for-3 and Emily Holt threw a complete-game loss with six strikeouts.
Woodland (3-5 league) plays Ridgefield today on the road.
Mules play well in loss
NAPAVINE - Napavine got three hits off of Wahkiakum's Shelby Deaton, good enough for a 4-0 win Monday in a Central 2B League fastpitch game.
Deaton struck out 10, and Brittany Robbins and Ashley Moore played solid defense behind her. Moore (2-for-2) and Courtney Helms (1-for-3) were the Mules' top hitters.
Wahkiakum (3-8) travels to Adna today.

River washes out Kelso
When heavy rain ended Kelso's home GSHL 3A girls tennis match against Columbia River on Monday, River was ahead 4-0 in completed games, making it an official loss for the Lassies.
The unfinished game, first doubles, was shaping up to be Kelso's best. After opening with a 6-1 loss to a very strong team, Maria Claxton and Holly Kress battled back and were behind only 5-4 when the bad weather intervened.

Papermakers blank Kelso
CAMAS - Kelso dropped a 7-0 decision to powerful Camas here Monday in a Greater St. Helens 3A league soccer match, but generated an attack in the second half that has head coach John Fromdahl feeling good.
"We played much stronger after halftime," Fromdahl said. "We didn't want to sit back, and we actually put some pressure on them and head some chances. It was nice to see us attacking a little bit"

Goalkeeper Kevin Aniker "made some tremendous saves," said Fromdahl. "It was one of his better days." Kelso (3-6-2, 1-4-1 in league) hosts Hudson's Bay in a key league match on Wednesday.
