Dental records will be necessary to identify the body that was recovered Saturday at Goble Creek, Columbia County Undersheriff Gerry Simmons said Monday afternoon.

Simmons said he hopes the Oregon State Medical Examiner will be able to make a positive identification by Tuesday.

There is a possibility that the body belongs to Gabriel Triplett, 23, a Goble man who disappeared Feb. 25.

Simmons said the body is that of a white male, probably in his 20s to 30s. There is no sign of trauma.

The body has been in the creek since sometime after March 8, the day that area was searched by sheriff’s deputies and Search and Rescue teams who were looking for Triplett, Simmons said.

“At this point in time, we don’t know who it is and we’re doing the best we can to find out who it is,” Simmons said. “It’s hard on everybody. It’s hard on the Triplett family, it’s hard on the volunteers and it’s hard on our deputies.”

" Well anyone familiar with under water rescue/recover will tell you there are many places the body can snag on and be held under or even with a falls area small caverns etc the body can drift into. This is such a sad situation we all must pray for the families involved. The young men who found the body have support from their families but need prayers from us all. We must come togetjher as a community and help the Tripplett family and these others and give them prayer prayer prayer in their hours of need. "

" I have thought about this family every day since Gabe's disappearance. This is just such a shame. I sure hope the body found isn't him and that he is found alive soon. My heart goes out to this family. "

" the searches were before march 8th.
the searches were very extensive in that area, along with people, dogs and horses. he was spotted in longview just before that, so he may have hitched a ride back at a later date and went there. the searchers are quite certain he was not there when they searched the previous times. i do not know if any searches were done after those first three weeks.
hope that clarifies things. "

" no it means that the body has been in the water since at least the 8th if not earlier but not later than the 8th "

" You may well be the only one confused. The statement is a referance to the amount of decomposition hence needing the dental records. Coroners can tell with reasonable accuracy how long a body has been dead by the amount of decomposition. This is incredibly tragic. I pray for all invovled. Never miss an opportunity to tell your loved one's that you love them. Life is uncertain indeed. "

" to hear more people cry and complain about why the body wasn't identified instantly. Those people are so silly its ridiculous! "

" the body has not been identified, yet TDN is gonna go ahead and run the picture of who it COULD be huh? Why not wait until its concluded, THEN run the picture with the articles?? "

concerned mother wrote on Apr 14, 2008 7:50 PM:

" I wonder if any of you that has negative comments knows what its like to loose a child in a car accident and then to have another child be taken to soon again in the same family... I am telling you first hand it pure agony and grief... it never goes away... especially for another young person or young family member who dicovers the body... they never quite recover or do they ever forget the site... so if you could just find in your hearts to be supportive and kind at this moment whether it is proved to be Gabe or not just realize that even though most of you do not think highly of Rainier it seems by reading alot of negative comments in past articles... There are several kids affected by tragedy whether they belong to the family or not... death, grief, etc is all to hard learn to cope with at any age... As a mother of childre that went to school with Gabe and his siblings... I am, along with my family still grieving the loss of 2 of our boys in our family in 2006.... Right now all people should be concerned with is kindness and support... I know that my heart aches for this mother... only because I know all to well to see two young men leave a family loved them DEARLY!!! god bless Mrs. Triplett and her son Mitchell, and extended family... "

" I think that TDN should not have posted the pic or the name of Gabe at all. They don't know if it is him or not, and it was tragic to list that info.
I hope and pray that it is not Gabe, as I know both him and his mother. Tragic for the family of WHOEVER it is of course. But we always hope it doesn't happen to people we know and care about. "
