Area Roundup: Jacks' baseball team routs Washougal

A four-run first inning propelled the seventh-ranked R.A. Long Lumberjacks to a 9-1 victory over Washougal in Greater St. Helens 2A League baseball at the Lumberyard Thursday.
Willie Kubin’s RBI single plated Scott Pisapia to get the Jacks on the scoreboard in the first, and Kyle Helem later added a two-run single.
Pisapia finished with two doubles and scored twice, Kubin had two hits including a double and two RBIs, and Dane Cheatley chipped in two hits.
Edwin Frauenfeld picked up his first victory of the season with relief help from Carl Johnson.
R.A. Long (5-3, 3-1 league) visits Ridgefield today.
Kelso crushes Chieftains
Columbia River was the only Greater St. Helens 3A League foe that red-hot Kelso had not played prior to Thursday, and the fifth-ranked Hilanders gave the Chieftains a whipping to remember.
Kelso romped 17-4 in five innings at Stan Rister Stadium to improve to 10-0 overall and 7-0 in league.
“We definitely picked up where we left off last night,” Hilanders’ coach Scot Meeker said. “We were productive one-through-nine in the order. Everyone chipped in.”
Nolan Enriquez had three of Kelso’s 11 hits, including a double, and drove in two runs. Nate Nyman added two hits, Cody O’Neil had a double and two RBIs, and Phillip Cadwell and Jesus Morgan had two RBIs apiece.
The Hilanders exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning. Kelso also coaxed eight walks in addition to its 11 hits.
Nathan Enriquez pitched three innings of two-hit relief to book the win. Evan Pickett started and had four strikeouts before reaching his pitch count in the third inning.
The Hilanders visit Union today.
SOFTBALL
Gilman lifts CR to victory
CASTLE ROCK — Ashley Gilman belted a two-out, two-run triple in the bottom of the seventh inning to boost Castle Rock to a 5-4 victory over La Center in nonleague fastpitch on Thursday.
CR (2-2) trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Taviah’ Jenkins slapped an RBI single that scored Lindsay Melton. La Center added two runs in the top of the sixth inning, and the Rockets trimmed their deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run from Lacey Seidl.
In the seventh, Kattie Moore was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single from Samantha Moore. After an intentional walk to Seidl, Gilman slapped a triple that plated both Samantha Moore and Seidl.
Samantha Watkins allowed two hits and struck out 12 for the victory. Seidl had two hits and was a defensive standout along with Samantha Moore and Kayleigh Klingberg.
CR opens its SWW 1A League schedule with a doubleheader at Stevenson Tuesday.
Titans shut out Kelso
VANCOUVER — Kelso’s Jenna DeRosier scattered seven hits and struck out seven, but the Lassies’ offense could muster only three hits in dropping a 3-0 decision to Union in GSHL 3A League fastpitch Thursday.
Defensive standouts for the Lassies (5-2, 1-1 league) were third sacker Jamie Bolin, Lindsay Mayeda in right field and shortstop Crystal Nyman.
Kelso travels to Rainier Saturday.
Ducks sweep Mules
CATHLAMET — Toutle Lake’s Rachel Dahlman stuffed Wahkiakum on a 13-strikeout, two-hitter in the first game of a Central 2B League fastpitch doubleheader here Thursday, and the Ducks romped 17-1 in five innings in the nightcap to complete the sweep.
Dahlman allowed only one walk in a complete-game gem as Toutle won 4-1 in the opener. Kelsey Kent was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Valerie Noble, Amanda Cox and Megan McCain had two hits apiece in Game 2, and Kent and Lacey Hoffman both tripled.
McCain pitched three innings in relief of Dahlman to earn the win.
The Ducks (6-2, 4-1 in league) had 10 hits and took advantage of 12 walks in the nightcap.
Toutle Lake hosts Mossyrock in a doubleheader on Saturday.
Gallow twirls two wins
TOLEDO — Alyssa Gallow pitched a pair of victories as Toledo swept Winlock in a SWW 1A Evergreen Division fastpitch doubleheader Thursday.
Toledo (4-4, 2-2 league) used a seven-run seventh inning to win 12-7 in the opener, and claimed a 7-3 victory in the nightcap.
Kassi Reisbeck and Hillary Roeder each had three hits for Toledo in the opener, and Winlock’s Samantha Bradley tallied three hits.
In the nightcap, Gallow helped herself with three hits, Roeder and Kelsey Boone had two apiece, and Brianna Votaw chipped in two hits, two runs and two RBIs. Reisbeck had three double plays for the day.
Bradley belted a home run for Winlock.
Toledo entertains Forks in a doubleheader Saturday.
SOCCER
Johnson, Penley spark MM
After a frustrating first half, Mark Morris exploded for four goals to put away Washougal 5-0 at Northlake Field on Thursday in a Greater St. Helens 2A League soccer match.
The Monarchs (3-3-2, 2-2 in league) uncorked an 18-shot barrage in the first half but scored on just one, a Corey Johnson finish set up by Luis Bueno.
After halftime, Johnson connected again, Jeremy Penley had two goals and an assist, Sam Dodson had a goal, and Ian Kretzler, T.J. Suek and Michael Bollinger each had an assist.
“We started the game a little selfish and we just couldn’t find the net,” MM coach Harold West said. “Once we started crossing the ball when crosses became available instead of forcing stuff on the dribble, it opened up for us.”
West said it was “a breakout game” for Dodson at left forward, and praised the defense of Kody Rice and Edgar Vazquez.
Willie Brenc recorded the shutout in goal for the Monarchs, who visit Yelm Saturday.
Jacks blanked by Spuds
RIDGEFIELD — Injury-depleted R.A. Long gave up an own-goal three minutes into the second half as Ridgefield held on to shut out the Lumberjacks 1-0 in Greater St. Helens 2A League soccer Thursday.
The setback dropped RAL (3-1) out of a tie with Ridgefield (4-0) atop the GSHL standings.
“We played a really tough match, but we’re depleted with injuries so we had to use six JV players,” RAL coach John Bates said. “The guys played with a lot of heart, and hopefully we’ll bounce back from it.”
RAL entertains Washougal Tuesday.
TENNIS
Monarchs cage the Hawks
Mark Morris had little trouble turning away Hockinson as the Monarchs rolled to a 4-1 victory in GSHL 2A League tennis at home Thursday.
Amanda Thomas of MM won second singles 6-4, 6-2, and the Monarchs swept the doubles with Lindsey Dawkins and Erin Farquhar (6-1, 6-0), Megan Boaglio and Lauren Salberg (6-2, 6-1), and Lauren Anneberg and Jill Isaacson (6-0, 6-0).
Mark Morris hosts Ridgefield today.
Rockets fall to Tenino
CASTLE ROCK — With its first singles and first doubles teams away at a state extracurricular activity, Castle Rock fell 4-1 to Tenino here Thursday in a nonleague tennis match.
German exchange student Svenja Muser provided a highlight for the Rockets, winning her third singles match 7-5, 6-2 for her first varsity victory.
Castle Rock visits Hoquiam today.
Smith rallies RAL to win
Jessica Smith came from behind and won 10 straight games to take first singles 6-4, 6-0 as R.A. Long held off Washougal 3-2 in GSHL 2A League tennis at home Thursday.
RAL also had doubles victories from the teams of Kelsey Craft and Julie Linn (6-0, 6-1), and Lyndsey Norris-Collette and Jordyn Ashford (6-4, 6-1).
The Lumberjills (3-2, 2-0 league) visit Washougal Monday.
GOLF
Tapani leads RAL to win
WOODLAND — Kamri Tapani carded medalist honors with a round of 43 as R.A. Long rolled to a 250-279 victory over Woodland in GSHL 2A League golf at Lewis River Thursday.
Rounding out the RAL scorecard were Desi Tapani with 47, McKenzie Ellis 50, Rachel Zdilar 53 and Katie Sarysz 57. Breanna Wolf (49), Nicole Salee (50), Alyssa Black (59), Ashley Vetter (60) and Chelsea Anderson (61) all competed for Woodland (1-2).
Olsen medals for Mules
OCEAN SHORES — Wahkiakum dispatched North Beach 182-151 at Ocean Shores Golf Course on Thursday, with the Mules’ Cody Olsen claiming the match medal.
Olsen led his team with a 44, and Wahkiakum’s next three were Cole Claussen (45), Chase Fritzie (46) and Andrew Weiler (47).
The 4-0 Mules host Willapa Harbor on Thursday.
TRACK
Avalos paces RAL sweep
Andrea Avalos won two events and led a pair of relays to victory as R.A. Long swept both ends of a Greater St. Helens 2A League track meet from Hockinson at Longview Memorial Stadium Thursday.
RAL topped Hockinson 85-59 in the girls meet, and topped the Hawks 84-58 in the boys events.
Avalos won the 100 hurdles (17.53 seconds) and 300 hurdles (51.84), teamed with Brittany Carterby, Erin McIntosh and Shaunie Harding to win the 400 relay (54.09), and joined McIntosh, Carterby and Jasmine Gnuschke to claim the 800 relay in 1:59.
McIntosh also won the 200 (27.66), and Carterby claimed the 100 (12.91). Meg Taylor was tops in the high jump (4-feet-8), Sam Johnson won the 1600 (6:00) and Kendra Shine took the pole vault at 6-feet.
In the boys events, Andrew Galloway won the long jump (18-8), high jump (6-feet) and was part of the winning 1600 relay with Michael Tran, Sterling Yates and Brian Keppinger in 3:53.
Yates also won the 1600 (4:57) and 800 (2:13), Keppinger won the 100 (11.33) and 200 (22.97), Angelo Folz-Edwards was first in the shot put (42-7 ½) and discus (139-3), and Cody Cassidy won the pole vault at 10-6.
Arie Cottrell, Folz-Edwards, Patrick Wille and Justin Wilson won the weightman’s relay in 54.9.
RAL entertains Woodland and Washougal on Thursday.
Williams, Arn shine
WOODLAND — Matt Williams of Mark Morris won two events and anchored two relay victories, and Woodland’s Charity Arn won three events as they led their teams to victory in a Greater St. Helens 2A League dual meet on Thursday.
MM topped Woodland 97-48 in the boys meet, and Woodland turned away the Monarchs 84-66 in the girls competition.
Williams won the 100 (11.4), 200 (23.7) and teamed with Jeff Wilson, Jesse Wilson and Nate Wilson to win the 400 relay (45.4) and 1600 relay (3:43.7). Jeff Wilson also won the triple jump (43-¼), Ross Van Zanten claimed the long jump (20-3 ½) and high jump (6-2), Chase Bussing won the 800 (2:07.5) and established an MM freshman to win the 1600 (4:45.4), and Zach Hutton was tops in the 3200 (11:10.4).
Van Zanten is slated to compete in the prestigious Arcadia Meet in Southern California on Saturday. The meet features some of the top long jumpers and high jumpers in the nation.
Winners for Woodland were Elliott Moss in the 300 hurdles (46.5) and 110 hurdles (16.3), Hayden Woodard in the pole vault (13-feet), Evan Koering in the discus (126-9), Marcus Watts in the javelin (148-7) and Tra Givens in the shot put (42-6 ½).
In the girls meet, Arn won the high jump (5-feet), 100 hurdles (17.2) and pole vault (8-feet), and Alex Coons was tops in the 100 (13.0) and 200 (28.0). Also winning for Woodland were
Mia Nigro (400, 1:09.4), Ale Van Cleef (300 hurdles, 52.1), Mackenzie Ripp (discus, 99-4), the 400 relay of Coons, Michelle Kooiman, Van Cleef and Lauren Davis (53.6), and the 800 relay of Catherine Kha, Kooiman, Mia Patterson and Van Cleef (1:57.6)
Winners for MM were Randie Collette won the long jump (15-2) and triple jump (31-5 ½), Jennifer Hamilton claimed the shot put (37-8) and javelin (111-3), Haley Brusewitz was tops in the 800 (2:41.1) and 1600 (5:44.2), and Savina Rodriguez won the 3200 (13:16).
Kalama, Toledo win
ONALASKA — Kalama won the boys’ side of Onalaska’s 10-team Class 1A/2B track meet on Thursday with 89 points, and Toledo won the girls’ half with 128.5.
Other local boys teams were Wahkiakum and Toutle Lake (tied for fourth, 71.5), and Toledo (ninth, 29.5). The Wahkiakum girls were third with 88.5, Kalama fifth with 67.5, and Toutle Lake seventh with 49.5.
Toutle Lake’s Taylor Schnebly was a double winner in the long jump (20 feet, 5 3/4 inches) and the triple jump (39-10 1/2). Jeran Delapp won the 400 in 52.63.
For the TL girls, Kandra Kent won the long jump in 14-5.
Walker, Nagunst win three apiece
CLATSKANIE — Rainier’s Hazze Walker and Kayla Nagunst won three events apiece to lift Rainier in a four-team Lewis and Clark 3A League meet Thursday.
No team scores were kept.
Walker won the 100 meters (11.9 seconds), javelin (171-feet), long jump (19-4) and anchored the winning 400 relay with Andrew Allen, Bastion Walker and Austin McGlone in 47.0. McGlone also won the 110 hurdles in 17.9, and Jeremy Murphy took the shot put at 40-11.
Nagunst won the 200 (29.2), 400 (1:05) and 1500 (5:32). Tasheena Pedersen won the shot put (24-1), and Cassie Stuva won the discus (77-1).
CC SOFTBALL
LCC splits with Clackamas
OREGON CITY — Jessi Hanna drilled a double down the left field line to plate Samantha Petrich in the top of the eighth inning, and reliever Courtney Sherman struck out the side in the bottom of the frame as Lower Columbia College claimed a 6-5 victory in eight innings over Clackamas in the second game of an NWAACC Southern Division fastpitch doubleheader Thursday.
Haley Ridout belted a three-run home run to stake the Devils to a 3-0 lead in the first inning nightcap, and added an RBI single with two outs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 5-5 and send it into extra innings.
Ridout finished with three hits.
Tasia Trochim pitched the first three innings of the nightcap before yielding to Sherman, who struck out the Cougars’ 3-4-5 hitters in the eighth to nail down the win. She finished with seven strikeouts.
LCC (14-4, 3-3 league) dropped the opener 3-2. Petrich had two hits including a triple, and O’Neil had two hits and absorbed the loss.
The Lady Devils entertain Clark in a doubleheader at Tam O’Shanter Park today.

R.A. Long 17, Washougal 0 — Levi Welch and Shane Oliva combined for a two-hit shutout, and RAL’s Gavin Johnson, Michael Puvogel, and Josh Sorenson each had two hits.
Kelso 3, Columbia River 1 — Garrett McCoy allowed three hits and struck out eight for the win, and Kelso also got a home run from Makaio Mobbs and three hits from Brandon Middleton.
Mark Morris 14, Hockinson 3 — Nate Tanzman hit two triples, knocked in six runs and scored twice, Brad Coleman had three hits, three runs and four RBIs, and Justin Archibald had two hits and two RBIs. Tyler Williams scattered four hits and struck out four in the victory.

Mark Morris 7, Washougal 0 — Miguel Linares and Garrett Beard scored two goals each, and Joe Dillard, Luis Hernandez and Jeff Pontius had one apiece.
Tennis
Hockinson at Mark Morris — MM’s winners were Jessica Chiu (8-1), Meredith Kretzler (8-4), and the team of Ariel Moilanen and Brianne Robinson (8-5).

Kelso 17, Union 0 (six innings) — Allyson Dillehay pitched a no-hitter with eight strikeouts and went 3-for-4 for the winners. Diana Clark went 4-for-5 with two doubles.
