Jan Elizabeth Gleaves, 39, of Rainier, who has been charged with sex-related crimes against young boys, entered a not guilty plea to all charges Monday morning in Columbia County Circuit Court.

At 4:30 p.m. Friday, the court will consider a motion to change her conditions of release. She’s now forbidden to have contact with minors, except her son, or go places where minors congregate.

Gleaves, who was released from jail March 31, filed the motion because “she wants to go to Little League baseball games,” said deputy District Attorney John Berg.

She has been charged with four counts of third-degree sexual abuse, seven counts of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, four counts of unlawful delivery of marijuana to a minor, 14 counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor and one count of attempted tampering with a witness.

Gleaves will have a pretrial hearing June 18.

Rainier police arrested Gleaves in December. She worked as a teacher’s assistant with the St. Helens School District.

Investigators said Gleaves committed sexual crimes against teenage boys and served them alcohol in her apartment in Rainier.

" what is in the teachers lounge around here? Are all our teachers, coaches, school employees, just sitting in there talking about who is going to be the next predator on our children? "

" Did you know that more than 50% of child sexual abuse comes from the child's relatives! Did you know that much of that goes unreported until later in that child's life? The only cases that seem to be making the news of late are those of teachers, not because it is new or on the rise but because it can be "sensationalized" by more media outlets to increase "ratings" etc. I am not being critical of any specific media format, just the media industry in general. Could it be that media is pushing to events to the "light", or only working to report these types of events because of the "stir" it can cause with the readers/viewers? "

" You may be right, but, are we not as parents suppose to send are children to school or sports and fill that are children will be treated with respect and not victimized? If the SYSTEM puts there foot down would it not happen as much? People would think about the consequence's, but has there been any thing done to these people who victimize our children? "

" Just for the record, not all of us school employees sit in the staff room thinking of ways to be predators. Some of us actually eat our lunches or have a quick break. "

" How do you propose to put the "foot" down? Schools already do background checks, the State already has a very steep licensing process for teachers and staff. If no one has been caught doing something bad how in the world is the school supposed to stop the crime? If you are truly worried about your child, you should be involved with all aspects of your child's development. Don't just "trust" someone else to do the job correctly. Visit the school regularly, visit with your child to see what they are doing, pay attention to their actions and moods to see if something wrong might be happening. And don't blame things on your work schedules or financial obligations. What good is forgetting your children for those things? It does take the whole community to educate and care for our children, expecting someone else to protect and look out for YOUR children's best interest is the pitfall we all face. Don't trust, investigate things your self, and challenge others to keep up with their jobs! If you forget, or overlook one person you could be allowing that person to hurt your's OR someone else's child! "

" I echo the statement that not all school employees sit in the staff room and think of ways to hurt children. Most of us are scarfing down our lunch as fast as we can because a student needs our help at lunch, or we only had 10 minutes to eat because of dealing with a behavior problem. Some of us, many of us, don't even have time to go to the bathroom during the day. Some of us ARE dedicated to providing children with a good education in as safe an enviroment as we can. All of us shake our head in utter disgust in how these so called educators are giving the rest of us a bad name, meanwhile we are busting our butts to make a difference in the lives of your children.

Did I mention that many of us don't even have time to go to the restroom? Got to run - you know where I am heading... to the restroom, then to sleep, then to wake us and again, try to make a difference, with no appreciation whatsoever. Goodnight!! "
