A Columbia County grand jury Thursday issued a 30-count indictment charging Jan Elizabeth Gleaves, 39, of Rainier with a series of alcohol and sex offenses relating to contact with teenage boys.

The indictments handed down Thursday are:

- Four counts of unlawful delivery of marijuana to a minor, a felony

- Seven counts of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, a misdemeanor

- Four counts of third-degree sexual abuse

- 14 counts of furnishing alcohol to a minor, a misdemeanor

- One count of attempted tampering with a witness, a misdemeanor.

Arraignment is set for 11 a.m. March 31 in Columbia County Circuit Court, said Columbia County District Attorney Stephen Atchison.

Rainier police arrested Gleaves in December. She worked as a teacher's assistant for the St. Helens School District.

Investigators said Gleaves committed sexual crimes against teenage boys and served them alcohol in her apartment in Rainier.

" Teachers are exempt from taking manditory drug tests to work with our children so if they have nothing to hide what is the problem?...Just over the bridge in Longview you would be shocked if they gave the teachers drug tests and find out who is using...Stand up for your kids and get drug testing for the teachers in your county manditory...After all they have your children more hours of the day than you do...Kids are not dumb they know who is using what.. " I cant believe how because this teacher is a woman they go easy on her with the charges. If a man teacher had done this they would be yelling RAPE, MOLESTATION and the like. Can someone tell me why the law is always so easy on the women in the US? "

" To unbelievable: I do agree with your comments. I think the reason is that there are still many who are of the warped opinion the young boys are lucky. During discussions at work about these sort of topics, I've heard more than one guy make the comment about how they wish they'd had a teacher like that. "

" I think you all need to wake up. It's just not the teachers in the school using drugs. It's the kids too! Heck half the kids are the ones dealing the drugs to the teachers. "

" Think it over people. All you need is one child mad at a teacher and make it look like your him or her's good friend. Hang out with them mabe drink or do drugs with them than turn them in. yes teachers are wrong to go for it but all it takes are a group of kids who mite know others who did it to good teachers also. wake up mom and dad's. do you know where your kids are? " WoW two teachers both from rainier area, worked at diffent school! Hmmm are these two related somehow? And for those who might not know what other teacher im talking about, im talking about that teacher assistant christine johanson, she worked at the rainier high school she only got a year for her crimes she committed. Totally unfair cause i agree with the rest of them if this had been a man he would have been sentence for a very long long time. "
