OREGON CITY ---- Lower Columbia College had balanced scoring as five players scored in double-figures as the Red devils pounded Linn-Benton 77-51 in the championship game of the Clackamas Holiday Tournament on Sunday.
Tournament MVP Alex King led the Devils with 16 points, with all-tournament pick Marice Tolliver adding eight points, six assists and two steals.
"Everyone stepped up their level of play for the tournament," LCC coach Jim Roffler said. "Alex did a nice job of using his ability to get the ball inside and finish, and Marice played the point and created a lot of easy baskets with his size, speed and passing ability."
Starters Josh Troyer and Michael Hallin, along with reserves James Gehring and Isaac Jimcoily all contributed 10 points apiece as the Devils made 55 percent of their shots, 31-of-56.
"They (the Roadrunners) couldn't key on any one player because we had good ball distribution," Roffler said. "The guys are starting to adhere to our main philosophy of finding the most open player which created advantages and high percentage shots."
LCC (7-5) outrebounded the Roadrunners 40-31 which included 12 offensive rebounds that were converted into 16 second-chance points. The Devils also netted 14 points off L-B turnovers.
"Our focus coming into the tournament was playing better team defense, and I think we've improved immensively in that area," Roffler said. "We took a lot of things away from them (the Roadrunners), and to hold them to 51 points was a heck of a job."
Troyer, King, Tolliver, Gehring and Hallin all grabbed five rebounds apiece.
LCC opens its Western Division schedule at Green River Saturday.
