Former Kelso resident Lorna Moon has been commissioned by the Leith Rules Golf Society in Edinburgh, Scotland, to write a play on how the rules of the game were invented on Leith Links.
According to the society, the first recorded rules of the game of golf were created by golfers playing at Leith Links in 1744.
The society made the announcement of the special project, which is funded by a Heritage Lottery Grant, at a ceremony Oct. 29. Moon will receive about 6,000 British pounds (more than $12,000) to write the play.
Moon told the society she has several themes and ideas already developing and she plans to work on the play over the winter months. Leitheatre Drama Club members have offered to enact parts as they are written.
Moon, an author and illustrator, moved from Kelso to Edinburgh in 2001. She is a 1976 graduate of Mark Morris High School and is the daughter of Wallace and Judy Krausch of Centralia.
