Golf

Mint Valley: The Men's Club meets at 7:30 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month in the clubhouse. A weekend game follows the meeting at 8:30.

• Hike the Larch Mountain Trail on Monday. Meet behind Kelso McDonald's at 8 a.m. for the 150-mile roundtrip drive. Hike is six miles with a 1,200-foot elevation gain on a well-graded trail. Most of the hike is in the woods with good views at the top. For details, call Bynum, 578-0617.

• Hike the Hummocks Trail to Johnston Ridge on Nov. 17. Meet behind the Longview Public Library at 8:00 a.m. for the 130-mile roundtrip drive. Hike is nine miles with a 1,800-foot elevation gain from Hummocks trail to Johnston Ridge and back, or hike three miles on the Hummocks trail. • A potluck business meeting and program will be held Nov. 27 at Catlin Grange. Meet at 6 p.m. for social time, with dinner served at 6:30. Bring salad, hot dish or dessert and table service. Running

Cowlitz Valley Runners: The nonprofit, all-volunteer club meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at The Masthead. Fun/group runs are held at various locations weekly, all abilities are encouraged and welcome to attend. Turkey Trot Fun Run: The annual non-competitive fun run for all ages will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Nov. 22 beginning at the Lions Shelter at Lake Sacajawea. Free raffle drawings will be held after the event, and prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers. Cost is $8 per person or $16 per person with a shirt. For details, call 442-5400.

26th annual Year to Year Fun Run/Walk: This annual tradition will be held Dec. 31 at the Armory, 819 Vandercook Way. The Run/Walk begins at 11:50 p.m. Registration for the event begins at 9 p.m. prior to the race. Pre-registration cost is $10 or $15 the day of the race, $37 for registration and an adult sweatshirt, or $34 for registration and a youth sweatshirt. Children ages 10-and-younger are free, and runners can save $1 the day of the race if they donate a can of food. Members of the Cowlitz Valley Runners can save $2 off their entry. Running of the Fools 10k run: The event will be held at 8 a.m. March 29 at Willow Grove Park. Cost is $10 without a shirt or $20 with a commemorative shirt prior to race day, or $12 and $22 on race day. All Cowlitz Valley Runners club members receive a $2 discount. T-shirts will only be offered to runners who register prior to March 5. Gaither Pool: The pool, located at Kelso High School, is open to the public. Cost is $3.50 for a single visit or $10 for a family which includes immediate family of a parent and a maximum of eight individuals. A punch card is available with 24 visits for $60. Briarcliff pool: Admission fees for the pool located at Rainier High School are $3 for adults, $2 for children and seniors, or $10 for a family. Racquetball lessons: The classes for ages 18-and-older teach the basics of racquetball including forehand, serve, volley, scoring and more. All participants must bring eye protection.
