The PNE Corp. Classic Charity Golf Tournament held Aug. 17 raised $40,000 for Cowlitz County Habitat for Humanity.
After months of planning, a full field of 144 players enjoyed a day of golf with a live and silent auction held afterward, states a PNE press release.
Since 2005, the annual event has netted more than $100,000 for local charities, states the press release.
"Each year the event becomes more impressive," said PNE Charitable Foundation board member Spencer Partridge. "This has been our finest year, and we're proud to have reached our goal of making a difference locally."
The $40,000 donation is being used to construct local Habitat for Humanity house number nine, at 126 16th Ave., Longview.
"We were very excited about the opportunity to partner with the PNE Charitable Foundation," said Habitat for Humanity director Len Lelevich. "It's hard to describe generosity this overwhelming."
Event participants signed 2 x 4s that were built into the home.
"Seeing the signatures built into the home was heartwarming," said tournament coordinator Ashley Opsahl-Scibelli. "Knowing our best wishes will be with the family daily helps make this house a home."
Tournament founders CCS and PNE Construction, both divisions of PNE Corp., stepped up this year as platinum sponsors. In 2006, the PNE Corp. divisions handed the event off to the PNE Charitable Foundation after eight years.
Major sponsors include Bratrud-Middleton Insurance, Cowlitz Bank, U-Neek RV, Columbia Ford, Pro Caliber Motor Sports, Bud Clary Chevrolet, Red Canoe Credit Union, Liberty Benefits Group, Weatherguard Roofing, Mr. C's Photography and more than 50 additional Gold, Silver, Bronze and Associate sponsors.
The tournament gross champion team was composed of Corey Balkan and Ted Sprague of the Cowlitz Economic Development Council and Max Anderson and John Anderson of Anderson & Anderson. The tournament net champion team was made up of Paul Helenberg and Adam Helenberg of Triple S Excavation and Jerry Dietz and Mel Protho of Triad Mechanical.
