Coroner: Shooting victim had several wounds

E-mail this articleCowlitz County Coroner Tim Davidson said Daniel Milloy died of "multiple gunshot wounds," according to an autopsy Monday night. He declined to give the number and location of the wounds because it is an active homicide investigation.
Tuesday morning before a packed courtroom, Superior Court Judge Stephen Warning found probable cause to proceed with charges against Kevin Welsh involving four counts of second-degree assault -- one for each time Welsh allegedly pointed a handgun at a person. Warning adjusted bail to $50,000 and set Welsh's second court appearance for 9 a.m. Sept. 11.
Welsh allegedly shot Milloy after a dispute Saturday at a Longview mobile home park. Additional charges are pending review by the Cowlitz County Prosecutor's Office.
The fight that led to the fatal shooting had been simmering all morning, statements to Longview police show.
Korena Milloy, the victim's wife, told police Kim Welsh yelled a slanderous remark out the window at her. The Welshes live in the same park as Korena Milloy's parents, Ed and Judy Lane, at 5600 Mount Solo Road. The Milloys were visiting the Lanes, who told police they also heard the remark.
Korena Milloy told her husband what Kim Welsh said, and Dan Milloy went immediately to Kevin Welsh, who was outside, and asked why his wife would say such a thing.
Kevin Welsh told police he felt intimidated by Dan Milloy, who was 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds while Welsh is 5-foot-9, 170 pounds. Welsh said he took his .32 caliber pistol out of his vehicle and pointed it at Milloy. He said Milloy laughed and called him a tough guy with a gun.
Welsh said he returned his gun to the vehicle when Milloy backed away, and things were quiet for a little while.
Korena Milloy said she was still seething about the earlier remark and decided to talk to Kim Welsh. She told police when she walked onto the Welshes' porch, Kim Welsh came out with a baseball bat and swung it at her. Kim Welsh admitted this, but said she didn't hit her arm very hard, the report said.
Korena Milloy told police she leaped on Kim Welsh and began punching her in the face. Korena Milloy said Dan Milloy entered the trailer and pulled her off.
Kevin Welsh told police he saw Korena Milloy enter the trailer, followed by Dan Milloy. He said he heard a lot of yelling and crashing, so he got the gun and went in after them.
Welsh told police that when he saw his wife's bloody face and saw Milloy headed toward him, he was afraid.
Korena Milloy told police Kevin Walsh fired the weapon at her husband, then pointed it at her, and then pointed at her parents when they rushed in.
