Weyerhaeuser Foundation representative and Region Services Manager, Mike Karnofski, recently delivered a check for $15,000 to the Cowlitz AmeriCorps Network.
"Weyerhaeuser Foundation has been a staunch supporter (of Cowlitz AmeriCorps Network) and its most generous donor, since the program's inception," Cowlitz AmeriCorps program director Carole Eby said in a press release.
The Cowlitz AmeriCorpsNetwork has fielded teams of national service volunteers since 2000.
"Community support is absolutely crucial to AmeriCorps teams," Eby wrote. "The Corporation for National and Community Service, through its Washington Commission, grants funds for local service efforts while emphasizing cash match and in-kind support from communities fortunate enough to have AmeriCorps members."
Members provide 11 months of service in area schools and nonprofits.
"The United Way of Cowlitz County and Residential Resources, grantee and sub-grantee respectively for the Cowlitz AmeriCorps Network, are quick to acknowledge the importance of philanthropic giving, and community partners like the Weyerhaeuser Foundation," Eby wrote.
The Washington Commission for National and Community Service also honored Weyerhaeuser Foundation at a ceremony at the governor's mansion recently.
Team members, who were present when the foundation's gift was delivered, were Ruby Ordinola of Kelso School District ESL Programs; Edith Bautista of the Ethnic Support Council; Cindy Haag of Mark Morris High School; Yvonne Pecha, AmeriCorps volunteer coordinator; Pat McIntosh of Kelso High School; and Sharon Herren of Youth and Family Link.
