"You say toe-mah-toes, we say heirloom tomatoes."
That's the theme at the Lower Columbia Farm to Table dinner scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 21, at CFD restaurant, Longview.
Homegrown heirloom tomatoes will be featured in all four courses of the dinner prepared by chef Bryan Burt and his staff. Heirloom to tomatoes are grown from seeds that have been handed down from family to family and farmer to farmer, as opposed to the hybridized tomatoes cultivated after World War II. Also on the menu Aug. 21 will be bison that has been raised by farmers using organic methods.
This is the third dinner sponsored by Farm to Table, a not-for-profit group of food lovers, which promotes eating locally grown food for better health and great taste and to support Lower Columbia farmers. The group has also developed a free guide to Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, Lewis and Columbia County, Ore., farms that sell their fruits, vegetables, berries, and meat and poultry direct to consumers. The guide includes farmers market listings.
Seating for the dinner is limited, and reservations are required. Call Trina, 360-425-2837, at the bistro in the back dining room of Country Folks Deli, 1329 Commerce, Longview. Cost is $40 a person, $60 including the wine flight.
