The Weyerhaeuser Foundation was among an elite group to recently honored at the governor's mansion in Olympia.
The Governor's 2007 Volunteer Service Awards, hosted by the Washington Commission for National and Community Service, recognizes individuals and businesses who "make a profound difference in their communities that result in tremendous improvements in environmental, human needs, public safety and educational programs for our state and residents," states a press release from the Cowlitz AmeriCorps Network.
The network nominated the Weyerhaeuser Foundation for its financial support. Over the past seven years, the foundation has donated more than $105,000 to the team.
"In addition, Weyerhaeuser employees participate in the United Way Day of Caring each September and are encouraged to volunteer and be active in the community," states the press release.
Weyerhaeuser region services manager Mike Karnofski accepted the award on the behalf of the foundation.
"Community support is absolutely crucial to AmeriCorps teams," Carole Eby, program director for the Cowlitz AmeriCorps Network, said in the press release. "United Way of Cowlitz County, and Residential Resources, grantee and sub-grantee respectively for the Cowlitz AmeriCorps Network, are quick to acknowledge the importance of philanthropic giving and community partners like the Weyerhaeuser Foundation."
