Go 4th button sales, which finance the annual Independence Day fireworks show at Lake Sacajawea, are lagging way behind this year, making festival organizers nervous.
Only about 3,000 of 16,000 buttons have been sold with just a little more than a week to go, organizers said Monday.
"Usually by now we would have 6,000 to 9,000 sold," according to Marianne Chambers, a member of the Go 4th Festival committee. "I have a $10,000 bill for the fireworks show that I have to pay for."
She said she can't explain why sales of the $1 buttons are slow this year, though the committee was two weeks later than normal getting them out and "4th of July is coming on us so fast."
The buttons are available at a wide range of locations around town, including The Daily News.
Button include numbers that will drawn for 29 prizes. The top prize is a 2700 Honda CRF50 scooter donated by Debi Harlan, owner/broker of Realty World Specialists. For more information, visit www.gofourthfestival.org/.
Winners are announced the day after the festival, which runs Monday, July 2 through Wednesday, July 4. The fireworks show closes the festival at 10 p.m. July 4.
