The Rainier Chamber of Commerce presented the city of Rainier Public Works Director Dwayne Barnes with a certificate of merit and appreciation at Wednesday's chamber meeting.
The award was in recognition of the many good works performed by Barnes for the community, according to chamber president Shirley Bartholomew.
"Your uncommon support of community projects, such as the Saturday Market in the Park and the creation of the Blue Star Memorial Marker has not gone unnoticed," she told Barnes. "Indeed, without your skills and creative talent neither of these two projects could have succeeded. We are most appreciative."
Bartholomew said Barnes deserves public recognition, not only for his support of special projects, but for the professional manner in which he performs his day-to-day duties for the city of Rainier.
"With all the problems we've had at Saturday Market, Dwayne has really 'cowboyed' up and come through," market director Judy Taylor said Wednesday. "The first week, the electricity wasn't working. I called Dwayne and he came right down and fixed it, even though he was home on his day off."
Taylor said Barnes and his wife, Kelly, also often help with setting up and tearing down of the market.
"He's the hardest-working guy I've ever met," she said. "You have to appreciate that."
