Columbia County authorities raided a suspected meth house late last week and arrested a woman known on the street as "Grandma Sue."

Susan Mary McCartney, 49, of St. Helens was booked into the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $110,000 bail. She faces charges of unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, unlawful delivery of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of methamphetamine.

Concluding a two-year investigation, the Columbia Enforcement Narcotics Team, assisted by the St. Helens Police Department, Columbia County Sheriff's Office and Clatskanie Narcotics K-9 team, served a search warrant at McCartney's house Thursday afternoon.

CENT investigators said their search of the home yielded methamphetamine, digital scales, packaging materials, cutting additive, police scanners, video surveillance equipment, night vision devices, firearms, drug records and items associated with identity theft. The drug records seized have helped CENT investigators identify numerous drug users in and around the St. Helens area who were buying methamphetamine regularly from McCartney, according to a CENT news release.

Using figures obtained from McCartney during interviews, CENT investigators attributed her to sales of more than three pounds of methamphetamine over the previous two years. Investigators consider three pounds "a substantial amount" but believe she actually may have sold far more than that, according to the news release.

At McCartney's home, investigators also arrested Kenneth Lee Holinbeck, 23, a transient, on a probation violation. A third person was released at the scene.

" If they were in bad condition , it would seam that the neighbor who saw them in the woods would have immediately rescued them, and asked questions later. Obviously they were not in bad condition, only crates(not a crime) or carriers. Maybe he did take his animals with him on a trip. I have taken mine before, and know many people who take thiers along(even in RVs. Sounds like extreme tree huggers to me. Or maybe the PETA people who think a dog should never be crated.I guess it is more humane to go to dog shows and let other peoples dogs out in protest to them bieng in thier crates. I guess if this results in them getting hit by a car, lost, or running at large , this is acceptable. Most vet's require that an animal is crated in the waiting area. I hear no mention of whether or not they had food, or water. I think the humane society also must have someting better to do than chase after a guy and 18 dogs that are not in unsavory condition, even by the accounts of the neighbor who saw them in the woods. If they were in bad condition shame on that neighbor for leaving them there. "
