A Castle Rock man was hospitalized after a Longview man allegedly shot him on suspicion of breaking into his shop/residence early Monday morning.

Kelly C.F. Smith, 44, was listed in fair condition Monday at Oregon Health & Science University with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

Longview Police Detective Sgt. Tim Duscha said Frank Amadon, who lives in his industrial warehouse in the 1300 block of Beech Street, heard some noises at around 12:30 a.m. Monday and confronted a man who appeared to be stealing wire.

Amadon's property, along with other property in the same area, has been frequently hit by burglars and metal thieves.

The case is still under investigation and there are no charges at this point, Duscha said.

This is not the first time Amadon has pointed a gun against people who entered his property without permission.

In December 1997, police arrived to find Amadon holding two men on the ground and a third hiding in nearby bushes. They had been playing paintball and were cited for criminal trespassing.
