On July 28, the Cowlitz AmeriCorps Network national service team celebrated the successful completion of its sixth year of service to Cowlitz County with a graduation ceremony. Nearly 30 members followed through on an 11-month commitment that brought almost 40,000 hours of help to children, youth, adults and families that improved and enriched their lives.

This would not have been possible without the generous contributions of cash and/or in-kind gifts from our major contributors the Weyerhaeuser Foundation, Residential Resources, United Way of Cowlitz County, Columbia Ford, The Evans Family Foundation, Peace Health, Kaiser Permanente and The Daily News.

The service that members provided, valued at $ 670,000, was supported every day, on the job, by our great host site partners scattered around the county in schools, government agencies, community nonprofits and faith-based organizations. In addition to assisting the program with a matching contribution, our host partners trained, mentored, and acknowledged members to support their success.

While there is much to do, it is obvious that this community cares, and that AmeriCorps members are valued for their efforts and the sacrifices they make to answer the call to serve.
