E-mail this articleThe Lewis and Clark Bridge will close briefly this afternoon as a precaution while a ship carrying a massive crane passes under the span.
The bridge is expected to close at about 1 p.m., and state highway officials are cautioning drivers that the closure may last an hour or more. The exact time and length of the closure depends on when the ship makes its transit.
The crane, which measures 183 feet high from the ship's deck, is expected to have about 3 feet of clearance. It's bound for the Port of Portland.
