Cascade Way speed humps will return at a more comfortable height

The two speed humps removed from Cascade Way last month because they were too high will be resinstalled soon, according to Longview City Engineer Craig Bozarth.
Complaints about the humps, installed in November, has prompted the city to re-evaluate where and how it installs speed humps.
The humps were too high because cold weather that accompanied their construction prevented them from compressing adequately, and the overelevated humps gave cars too sharp a jolt.
During the next stretch of good weather, the city will reconstruct the two humps at their previous locations at the proper, lower profile, Bozarth said. The Cascade Way speed humps are designed to slow traffic to 25 mph.
"They will definitely be more comfortable," Bozarth said.
The rest of the city's speed humps scheduled for construction are on hold until the city council can re-evaluate the speed hump policy.
