Two Jills land all-state first-team honors

R.A. Long senior setter Amy Higginson capped her prep career with a first-team nod on the Washington all-state volleyball team, while another Lumberjill ---- senior soccer standout Stefa Chow ---- also garnered first-team all-state honors.
Players were selected by a statewide panel of coaches and sportswriters.
In volleyball, athletes selected to all-state first-teams included five hitters, two setters and a libero. A player had to be named on at least two ballots to earn honorable mention.
Higginson also earned the Greater St. Helens 3A League Most Valuable Player after leading the Lumberjills to the GSHL 3A and District 4 titles, and a 13-3 record.
Tumwater libero Kaileen McClaflin also earned first-team honors in Class 3A, outside hitter Cristin Richards of Tumwater was named to the second team, and Camas hitter Allison Buck was honorable mention.
Selah's Meggie Graf was named Most Valuable Player. Kay Aberle, who led Selah to an 18-0 record and the 3A state title, was named Coach of the Year.
In Class 2A, outside hitters Kim Carter of Woodland and Montesano's Stefanie Steadman were named to the state's second team. Sara Mosiman of King's was named Most Valuable Player, and Pullman's Jennifer Greeney, who led the Greyhounds to a 16-2 record and a state title, was selected Coach of the Year.
Kalama's Dani Nelson and Deanna Riffe of White Pass earned Class 1A second-team honors as outside hitters. Onalaska's Amanda Durand was named to the first team at outside hitter, and Toledo's Alicia Growden was an honorable mention outside hitter.
Lauren Mellor of Colfax was named Class 1A MVP, and Sue Doering of Colfax was the Coach of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to a 15-3 record and the state crown.
In Class B, Toutle Lake outside hitters Amanda Harris and Charlee Wuollet were named to the state's second team, along with Morton's Vanessa Ramsey. Morton's Renee Blankenship was tabbed a first-team libero. Honorable mention picks included Toutle Lake setter Denali Preston and South Bend hitter Tori Lynn.
Pomeroy's Sarah Bates was named MVP, and Jim Greene of Pomeroy was selected Coach of the Year after leading the Pirates to the state championship and a 17-1 record.
In girls soccer, Chow ---- who was named the Greater St. Helens 3A League Player of the Year ---- can now add the title "all-state standout" to her portfolio.
Chow, a senior defender, was named to Class 3A first team. All-state teams consist of four forwards, four midfielders, four defenders and a goalkeeper. Players named to the honorable mention teams had to receive votes on a minimum of two ballots.
Also named to the state's first team was Timberline midfielder Sara Carey. Camas defender Chaitra Parsons and Cedarcrest standout Jamie Coe were named co-Most Valuable Players.
Named to the state's second team were forwards Breeanne Barker of Mark Morris and Fort Vancouver's Jessica Perry, and Camas defender Ashley Oster. Honorable mention picks included midfielders Charlene Hitchcock of Tumwater and Columbia River's Megan Schmitt, defender Heidi Daugherty of Camas, and Yelm goalkeeper Kim Waller.
Roland Minder of Camas, who led the Papermakers to the state crown and a 19-0 record, was the Coach of the Year.
In Class 2A, Woodland goalkeeper Courtney Greenleaf received second-team honors, along with White Salmon defender Chelsea Ludwig and Montesano goalie Jennifer Vessey.
First-team picks included forwards Kaitlyn Richards of Stevenson and Raychel Wilson from ROCK-ON, a team of players from Mossyrock and Onalaska, midfielder Kendra Matthews of Montesano, and Ridgefield defender Tiffany Dawkins.
Eatonville's Jenny Baker was named MVP. Rollie Arthur, who led Eatonville to a 20-0 season and the state title, was named Coach of the Year.
In Class 1A/B, Katherine Reynolds of University Prep and La Salle's Molly McGee were named co-Most Valuable Players. Rob Phillips, who led Seattle Academy to a 16-4 record and the state title, was the Coach of the Year.
