The Longview School Board plans to discuss Monday the Cowlitz County Commissioners' "war on meth" proposal.
Commissioners are considering asking voters for a 0.2 percent addition to the state sales tax. The increase would cost consumers 2 cents on a $10 purchase and would raise an estimated $2.3 million a year for meth-control programs. The county would develop the programs with cooperation from police and social service agencies.
Education officials have recommended that money allotted for education and prevention be used for out-of-school programs and substance abuse intervention specialists at secondary schools.
The 7:30 p.m. meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at the district board room at 28th Avenue and Lilac Street.
