WOODLAND -- Erica Rainford was selected as the newest member of the City Council on Monday night.

Three candidates applied for a council position that was vacated by Chris Haughee earlier this month.

The candidates, Rainford, Albert Swindell and Enio Suomi, were interviewed at council members Monday night and after a private discussion, the council voted 3-1 for Rainford.

Rainford, 22, is the former owner of Black Water Cafe in downtown Woodland and now works as a real estate agent for Woodland Real Estate. She is a Woodland High School graduate.

During her interview, Rainford said she believes she can bring new thoughts and ideas to the council, and has experience dealing with the public on a daily basis. She said she is concerned about the growth the city is experiencing and wants to see the growth managed.

"I also want the opportunity to gain more knowledge about what's happening in Woodland," she said.

Haughee, a youth pastor at Woodland Presbyterian Church, was elected in 2003, winning the position from incumbent Darryl Maunu. He also was the vice chairman of the Woodland Community Service Center. He and his wife, Kim, lived in Woodland for eight years but now will begin serving a church in Montana.
