LCC undefeated in league

CENTRALIA ---- Lower Columbia improved to 5-0 in league with a 30-16, 30-16, 30-28 win over Centralia.

Brenda Riggs had 13 kills and a .522 hitting efficiency, and Whitney Luchau was .429 for six kills despite playing out of position. Sara Peterson added four kills and three ace serves, and Sara Peterson had five kills and six blocks.

"We're cruising along pretty well here," LCC coach Jocelyn Price said. "We're happy with what we're doing."

The Red Devils visit Pierce on Friday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Columbians fall to OES

RAINIER ---- The Rainier Columbians played sixth-ranked Oregon Episcopal School tough in the first half, but faded down the stretch and dropped a 5-1 decision in a District 1 soccer battle Wednesday afternoon.

Karie Baldwin scored in the first half for Rainier to tie the game 1-1, but OES went ahead five minutes later for a 2-1 halftime lead, and tacked on three more goals in the second half to ice the game.

Rainier coach Kevin Pattison praised the play of goalkeeper Nancy Cessna and Becca Roth on defense. The Columbians host 10th-ranked Catlin-Gabel on Tuesday.

Monarchs tie P'makers

CAMAS ---- Katie Cotterell scored Mark Morris' lone goal, and it was enough to help the Monarchs settle for a 1-1 tie against Camas in a Greater St. Helens 3A League match Tuesday.

Cotterell's goal was assisted by Lauren Melink in the 26th minute and put MM (6-2-2, 4-1-1 league) on the board first.

The MM defense, led by Kristen Cygrymus, Megan Nichols and goalkeeper Brittany Warren (five saves), shut out Camas until late in the second half. The Papermakers found the net for the tying goal in the 70th minute.

MM coach John Anderson praised the play of midfielders Lindsey Nickerson, Kensi Wolgamott and Melink.

VOLLEYBALL

Kelso silences Thunder

VANCOUVER ---- The Kelso Lassies started slowly but gained momentum in toppling Mountain View 14-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-21, 15-13 in a nonleague match Tuesday.

Standouts for Kelso were Alisha Grendon (43 digs, 13 blocks), Sarah Womack (54 digs, 10 kills, four blocks) and Miranda Sitch (25 digs, 100 percent serving).

JV report

Football

Prairie 28, Mark Morris 13 -- Ryan Gorton and Cody Werner scored Mark Morris' TDs on one-yard runs, and T.J. Suek kicked the extra point. MM, now 3-1, plays Columbia River next week.

Volleyball

Mountain View def. Kelso 17-25, 26-24, 15-6 -- Kim Paollili played well in the front row for Kelso.

Frosh report

Kelso def. Mountain View 25-21, 25-20, 10-15 -- Kendra Harding (12 aces) and Jordgeanna Moxley (defense) led Kelso.

Mark Morris def. Washougal 25-3, 25-5, 15-10 -- Tops for MM were Daryl Neu (serving) and Amanda Trochim (hitting).
