TOLLGATE, Ore. (AP) -- Last year, there was so little snow in Eastern Oregon that the Spout Springs ski area didn't even bother to open.
This year, business at the small ski area near Pendleton has been booming, owner John Murray said, and between 10,000 and 12,000 people are expected to ski at the resort this winter -- more than in 2002, the last time the resort was open for business.
Pendleton's weekly Parks and Recreation ski bus to Anthony Lakes' Ski Resort also has seen an increase in riders, recreation coordinator Lynette Gilliland said.
"Last year, even at the beginning of February, the resorts had places you couldn't ski. This year you could ski just about everywhere since Thanksgiving," Gilliland said. "I think every ski resort this year is thriving."
